Annual Writing Workshops

MIASA CC-BY-4.0: Poster Writing Workshop

MIASA thrives for enhancing the capacity of African early-career researchers to publish in high standard journals and other publication outlets. For this purpose, MIASA offers annual writing workshops.

Writing workshops bring together up to twenty scholars from across the continent to reinforce their academic writing skills and strengthen their mutual relations. In collaboration with the ZIAF, Goethe University Frankfurt, MIASA has organised already three Writing Workshops in 2021 (only online), 2022 and 2023 (onsite at Legon campus). The fourth workshop will take place in April 2024.

The convener of these workshops, Prof. Akosua Darkwah (Dept. of Sociology, University of Ghana), works together with a team of editors and mentors who are all Africa-based and have strong publishing records. The workshops address the question: What makes a strong paper? In addition, they provide an introduction into the world of publishing and individual publishing strategies.

The workshops cover five days. Each morning, one of the editors covers a session. Every afternoon, the participants join a peer-group of four, who receive intensive feedback by an editor or mentor on their pre-circulated papers.

The workshops are open to both anglo- and francophone scholars. See also the report on MIASA’s Writing Workshops.
