Visual Impressions of Public Event with Artist in Residence Karim Stone

MIASA CC-BY-4.0: Poster Artist in residence: Stone

Stone Karim Mohamad, a Cameroonian poetograph, poet, and photographer based in Stuttgart (Germany), was MIASA artist in residence from 15 September to 15 December 2023. During this period he created an installation on the topic of “demo-crazy”, hold a public workshop on poetography and animated a public art event. He describes his project and experiences at MIASA in an interview with MIASA.

The workshop was held online and on-site at the MIASA bungalow as a contribution to the “German Days in Ghana 2023” on 17-18 October 2023. It explained the practice of poetography – creating poems with photographs and photographs with poems. In addition, it included a practical part, during which MIASA fellows and external participants took pictures themselves and discussed, which ideas, experiences and emotions they wanted to express through these pictures. They also reflected both realistic and abstract images can transmit meaning and space for interpretation.

The public art event took place on 7 December 2023 at the MIASA bungalow. It included a presentation of the art installation on the topic of “demo-crazy”, including a questions and answers session with the artist, and a spoken word art performance, which was attended by more than fifty guests.
